Arrigetch Peaks Expedition

I’m beyond excited to be running this trip to explore the remote Arrigetch Peaks alongside Backpack Alaska. As many of you know, I was born, raised, and still live in Alaska and am thrilled to share my home state with you.

A Little About The Arrigetch Peaks

The Arrigetch Peaks, meaning ‘Fingers of an outstretched hand’ in Inupiat, are a collection wild granite spires, nestled deep in the Brooks Range in Gates of the Arctic National Park. We will spend 8 days exploring this beautiful corner of Alaska among jagged rockfaces, ancient glaciers, alpine lakes, and Alaskan wild.

Arrigetch Peaks Itinerary

August 6: Arrivals in Fairbanks. This evening the group and guides will meet to double-check gear, review the itinerary and answer any questions.

August 7: In the morning we’ll board our charter flight from Fairbanks to Bettles and hopefully (weather permitting) we’ll board our bush plane to the Brooks Range. (flights, lunch & dinner included)

August 8-13: On the morning of August 16th, the real adventure begins. Over the next 6 days, we’ll hike our way over wild mountain passes, boulders, and scree, play in alpine lakes, explore glaciers, and more in the jagged and beautiful Arrigetch Peaks. (all meals included)

August 14: After breakfast, we will pack up and wave goodbye to the wilderness and board our bush plane back to Bettles. We will spend tonight in Bettles on the way back to Fairbanks. (meals and cabins in Bettles included)

August 15: After breakfast, we’ll catch our flight back to Fairbanks to wrap up the trip. (breakfast and flight to Fairbanks included)

What To Expect On This Arrigetch Peaks Trip

As this is an expedition-style trip and given the remoteness of where we will be going, you will need to be reasonably fit and able to carry a heavy pack (around 35-40 lbs / 16-21 kg). The trip is ranked at a level 3, meaning you should be prepared for 8+ hour hiking days with the potential of a few thousand feet of elevation gain/loss.

I’d also like to share that the Arrigetch, much like the rest of Alaska, is no stranger to erratic and unpredictable weather. We’ll do our best to stick to the itinerary, but chances are more than likely that we’ll need to make tweaks here and there.
